Current Concepts and Evaluation of Uro-Rectal Diseases by Transrectal Ultrasound: A Review
نویسنده
چکیده
This article specifically discusses the clinical importance and current role of transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) to index the clinical suspicion of uro-rectal diseases. The traditional digital rectal examination is an inadequate method with low sensitivity and specificity, and confidence level for uro-rectal diseases. TRUS provides further imaging modalities, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and three-dimensional reconstruction. Prostate cancer can be diagnosed in patient with refractory prostate-specific antigen to increase to increase diagnostic modalities with fusion biospies. The outcome of uro-rectal diseases can be improved by utilization of initial TRUS, a non-invasive and radiation free, extension of physical diagnosis.

Endoscopic ultrasound: current role and future perspectives in managing rectal cancer patients.
As therapeutic regimens for rectal cancer have seen considerable changes, an accurate staging is mandatory for choosing the adequate strategy. Locoregional staging is the decisive factor in selecting patients for neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy and for determining the extent of surgery. Endoscopic ultrasound (endorectal ultrasound--ERUS) is a very effective method for assessing the local ext...
متن کاملA pilot study of transrectal endoscopic ultrasound elastography in inflammatory bowel disease
BACKGROUND Using standard diagnostic algorithms it is not always possible to establish the correct phenotype of inflammatory bowel disease which is essential for therapeutical decisions. Endoscopic ultrasound elastography is a new endoscopic procedure which can differentiate the stiffness of normal and pathological tissue by ultrasound. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the role of transrectal...
متن کاملSevere Life Threatening Rectal Bleed After Prostate Biopsy Requiring Angiographic Therapy: A Case Report
Rectal bleeding is often seen in patients who undergo transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy. It is usually mild and stops spontaneously. We report what we believe is the first case of life threatening rectal bleeding following this procedure which was successfully treated with angiographic embolization. An endoscopic injection of epinephrine done on admission achieved only temporary hem...

texts, aimed at radiology and urology residents. This book certainly is pleasingly modern and is prolifically illustrated with generally good quality images of virtually all modalities including MRI and transrectal ultrasound scans. The only weaknesses here are the poor quality of some of the transabdominal ultrasound images and the deliberately brief coverage of nuclear medicine studies which ...
متن کاملEndoscopic ultrasound for the characterization and staging of rectal cancer. Current state of the method. Technological advances and perspectives.
Endoscopic ultrasound is the most accurate type of examination for the assessment of rectal tumors. Over the years, the method has advanced from gray-scale examination to intravenous contrast media administration and to different types of elastography. The multimodal approach of tumors (transrectal, transvaginal) is adapted to each case. 3D ultrasound is useful for spatial representation and pr...
